Operator Safety
in Design and Use
We work to ISO 45001 for health and safety management. Operator safety is a design requirement for every attachment.
We work to ISO 45001. Certification is under way and is not yet held. | ISO 13031 conformity
Who Our Safety Measures Cover
Safety is a requirement at every stage, from the first CAD drawing to final delivery. It covers three groups:
Manufacturing Team
Fabrication, welding, and finishing operations
Field Operators
Operators using our attachments daily
Site Personnel
People working near excavators on job sites
Workplace Safety Management (ISO 45001)
Risk Assessment & Control
- Hazard identification for all manufacturing operations
- Risk ranking and control measure implementation
- Regular safety audits and inspections

Training & Competency
- Welding certification (EN ISO 9606-1 qualified welders)
- Equipment operation training and authorization
- PPE training and enforcement
- Emergency response procedures
Safety Culture
- Worker involvement in safety decisions
- Stop-work authority for unsafe conditions
- Continuous improvement through incident analysis
- Contractor safety management

Quick Coupler Safety (ISO 13031)
Unexpected attachment release is a documented cause of quick-coupler accidents. Each coupler family locks in its own way to reduce that risk, so the checks you make depend on the coupler you have. The locking features depend on the coupler system. Each family page lists the ones that family has.

Front lock
Keeps the attachment from falling if the rear lock has not engaged.
Designed with it: QC-HS / QC-MS, QC-PGSpring-held rear lock
Springs hold the rear mechanical lock in engagement.
Designed with it: QC-HS / QC-MS, QC-PGVisual indicator
Shows the operator whether the coupler is engaged.
Designed with it: QC-S, QC-HS / QC-MS, QC-PGHydraulic lock
A pilot operated check valve adds a hydraulic lock to the mechanical ones.
Designed with it: automatic QC-S, CW, QC-HS, QC-PGBefore Each Use: Operator Checklist
Quick Coupler Inspection
Each coupler system locks in its own way. Check the one on your machine against its list.
QC-S, S-System
How it locks
- Double profiled front hook
- Rear mechanical safety lock
- Pilot operated check valve as a second, hydraulic lock (automatic version)
- Visual indicator of engagement
Check before use
- The visual indicator shows the coupler engaged.
- The front hook sits on the front pin and the rear lock has closed on the rear pin.
- Automatic version: no leaks at the hoses and fittings to the coupler.
CW, CW-System
How it locks
- Wedge that closes on the CW bracket
- Pilot operated check valve (automatic version)
- Manual safety lock (manual version)
Check before use
- The wedge has closed fully on the attachment bracket.
- Manual version: the manual safety lock is closed.
- Automatic version: no leaks at the hoses and fittings to the coupler.
- The catalogue lists no engagement indicator for CW, so the ground test below is your proof of lock.
QC-HS / QC-MS, MS-System
How it locks
- Front mechanical safety lock
- Rear mechanical safety lock, held in engagement by stiff springs
- Pilot operated check valve as a third, hydraulic lock (automatic QC-HS)
- Visual indicator of engagement
- QC-MS: the lock is worked with a wrench (included)
Check before use
- The visual indicator shows the coupler engaged.
- Both locks, front and rear, have closed on the attachment pins.
- QC-MS: the lock has been closed with the wrench.
- QC-HS: no leaks at the hoses and fittings to the coupler.
QC-PG / QC-ML-M, pin-grabber
How it locks
- Front mechanical safety lock: the attachment does not fall if the rear lock has not engaged
- Rear mechanical safety lock, held in engagement by a stiff spring
- Pilot operated check valve as a third, hydraulic lock (automatic QC-PG)
- Visual indicator of coupler state
- QC-ML-M: the lock is worked with a wrench (included)
Check before use
- The visual indicator shows the coupler engaged.
- The front lock has caught the front pin and the rear lock has closed on the rear pin.
- QC-ML-M: the lock has been closed with the wrench.
- QC-PG: no leaks at the hoses and fittings to the coupler.
Attachment Inspection
- Check for cracks in welds or structural damage
- Verify all pins and hardware are secure
- Inspect wear components (edges, teeth) for excessive wear
- Check bucket interior for debris or foreign objects
- Verify quick coupler mounting is tight (no play or movement)
Ground-Level Connection Test
- Attach quick coupler with attachment on ground
- Check the lock the way the list for your coupler system says
- Attempt to lift attachment slightly and lower
- Re-verify lock before full lift operation
Safe Operation Guidelines
Quick Coupler Connection
- • Always connect/disconnect on level ground
- • Never attach/detach while bucket is suspended
- • Verify lock engagement before lifting
- • Re-check locks after first movement
- • Never rely on hydraulic pressure alone to hold attachment
Load Management
- • Know your machine's rated capacity
- • Account for attachment weight + material load
- • Avoid side-loading or twisting under load
- • Do not exceed manufacturer's pin size specifications
- • Lift gradually and under control
Work Zone Safety
- • Maintain exclusion zone around excavator
- • Use spotter for blind spots or restricted visibility
- • Never swing loads over personnel
- • Ensure stable ground before operations
- • Follow site-specific safety protocols
Sieruta's recommended inspection intervals
These are the manufacturer's recommendation. Site rules and the carrier manufacturer's instructions take precedence.
- Visual inspection of quick coupler and attachment
- Locking mechanism function test
- Hydraulic line check
- Wear part check (cutting edges, teeth)
- Detailed coupler pin wear measurement
- Hardware torque verification
- Lubrication of pivot points
- Weld inspection (visual check for cracks)
- Dimensional verification (pin holes, mounting points)
- Structural integrity assessment
- Hydraulic system pressure test (if applicable)
- Documentation review (maintenance records)
- Professional inspection and certification
- Non-destructive testing of critical welds
- Pin replacement (if wear limits exceeded)
- Update maintenance records
